What This Does

Social media scheduling requires matching graphics for every post, and building each one from scratch across several client accounts is slow. Canva's Magic Studio generates on-brand text and design drafts from a blog post or a handful of key points, cutting a task that used to need real design skill down to a quick prompt and a review pass.

Before You Start

  • You have a Canva account, ideally already inside the client's brand kit or shared workspace so fonts and colors stay on-brand
  • You know whether the client's plan is free or Canva Pro. Magic Write and background tools work on the free plan with limited uses; unlimited access needs Canva Pro
  • You have the source content ready: a blog post, key bullet points, or a short description of what the graphic needs to say

Steps

1. Find the AI feature

Open the client's design in Canva. Magic Studio sits behind the purple sparkle icon in the left sidebar (on mobile, it is under the "+" button). A single input box at the top of the editor also accepts typed requests directly, like "turn this into a carousel" or "remove the background from this photo," and routes them to the right tool automatically.

2. Tell it what you need

For new text on a graphic, open a Canva Doc, Presentation, or Whiteboard and click "+" or type "/" to open the Magic Write menu, then describe what you want in specific terms. "Write three punchy captions for a real estate agent's new listing post" works better than "write something for social media." To rewrite text already sitting on a design, highlight the text block and click the Magic Write star icon on the text toolbar, then choose rewrite, shorten, expand, or a different tone.

3. Review and use the result

Read the generated copy against the client's actual brand voice. It rarely lands perfectly on tone the first time. Use the rewrite option again with a specific instruction, such as "make it more casual" or "cut this to fit a single Instagram caption," until it sounds like the client rather than like generic marketing copy. Drop the approved text into the graphic template and export.

Real Example

Scenario: A coaching client publishes a new blog post and needs three social graphics to promote it across Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook by end of day.

What you type/do: Paste the blog post's key points into the Magic Write prompt box and ask for three caption variations, one punchy and short for Instagram, one professional for LinkedIn, and one conversational for Facebook.

What you get: Three distinct caption drafts sized appropriately for each platform, ready to drop into three graphic templates already built in the client's brand kit.

Tips

  • Build the graphic template once per client and reuse it. Magic Write speeds up the copy, but a consistent template is what makes the finished posts look on-brand
  • Keep a short style note (tone, words to avoid, emoji use) next to your prompts so you are not re-explaining the client's voice every single time
  • Run the AI-generated caption past the client's past posts before publishing anything for a brand-new client, since Magic Write has no memory of what that account has already said
